Inexhaustible possibilities for a great visit. Non-Mona Lisa look at other parts of the
Museum. Excellent but tiring. Better with museum audio guide (first rate) and even more instructive with other background books or resorts identify pieces of interest.

Had to go here to see the Mona Lisa. This was well signposted but we were herded round an enormously long trail to get to the front of the line where your 30 or so group are let through a barrier and get your 2 minutes behind the other barrier!! When this time is up you are herded along by the security guards.
I had paid online for tickets and did an evening visit so that it was cooler and one audio guide but we never got to pick this up because the Richelieu entrance audio desk was closed. By the time we had done the Mona Lisa trail we had lost the will to live.
I know it is a big place and the nature of the building means you have to go down and up in some parts to get from one area to another but it is really badly signposted so that even if you know where you want to go to see something, it could take you an hour to find one thing. To find the Venus de Milo statue took 6 requests of the guides and about an hour to find. This completely spoiled the visit for me.
My advice for anyone visiting (if you really have to) would be to know exactly what you want to see (only 3 or 4 items) and plan exactly where you are going. Failing this, go to the Musee d'Orsay instead which is a much better experience.

So I went with a tour group so I got to cut the line which I highly recommend. This museum is crowded every day that it’s opened. And if you are going to see the Mona Lisa be prepared to stand two hours at the very least in line in order to see it and be shuffled through quickly. The museum is worth staying in all day it has a shopping mall as well as an eatery for you and bathrooms which you have to pay for typically 0.50€. However all the bathrooms are very clean. The museum is full of beautiful works of art that it’s highly recommended you get the audio hearing guide so that you can benefit from learning what you’re looking at. This site is credit card friendly and air-conditioned.
