Musee du Louvre exceeded my considerable expectations in every way. I'm not particularly knowledgeable in art or culture but the scope, scale and quality of the exhibits are mind-blowing.
The Museum map and audio-guide were easy to use and excellent for a first-time visitor, especially when combined with the well-marked signs within the museum.
Pre-booking a 'skip the line' ticket is strongly recommended. We visited between Christmas and New Year but the queue to buy tickets was still very long and our express entry saved us what would have been a cold, windy and very wet wait in line.
I'd recommend at least a full day to enjoy this amazing attraction. There is plenty of seating and the cafe provides a good place to rest your weary legs; the food is reasonable in quality and price for a major attraction with a good range of food on offer. The gift shop provided an interesting array of souvenirs for all budgets.

We went there in the morning, with 15 minutes before it opens and still have to went in a pretty long line. They have a special place where you cand leave your stuff, we had a pretty fast acces, probably also because we went very early, and we got a audio guide (totaly worth it). You have to reserve a lot of time for this museum because has a lot of things to offer.

Check the website for their weeknight hours. Much less crowded and the view of the louvre courtyard from inside at night/right before sunset is breathtaking (by the winged victory). Definitely get the self guided audio guide. The interface is little wonky but it's nice to go through the gallery with context and tracks which part of the museum you're in. After you're done with viewing the arts, be sure to take a snap of the famous entrance with the fountains at night.
