First make sure you enter through the Passage Richelieu entrance to avoid any lines. When we entered, there was no line whatsoever. Secondly, visit on a Wednesday with the extended hours as it will give you more time to spend in this massive museum. For art lovers, this is your paradise. Artists, especially French, who normally only have a couple pieces in any given art museum will likely have their own room of their pieces. We were thrilled to see so many masterpieces in one place. No matter how much you read or hear about the museum’s size, you don’t quite realize its massive size until you walk it. It would take a week to really view everything the museum has to offer. The audio guide is also a must as it not only goes into great detail on major pieces, but also doubles as an interactive map for the massive museum.
Spent three and a half hours here - but there is so much to see we could have spent the whole day, and possibly even two. It is definitely worth spending for the audio guide; it really opens everything up. But if you're not used to technology (and I am not) get some instruction on how to use it - it took my wife and I some tome to work it out for ourselves.
Reserve at least 6h for this place. We bought tickets on the spot and did not have issues with the queue. Audio Guide was helpful. Make sure you know the exact location of what you want to see as the pieces are not all in the together.
