The Louvre Museum is the largest art museum in the world. I browsed for over four hours (including a stop for lunch) and only saw a fraction of it. The collections are simply amazing. If you wish to attend a guided tour, you must reserve in advance. With the Museum Pass you skip the ticket line, and the security line moves quickly. Allow time for getting in, and getting your bearings. Look at the map, and choose what you most want to see. I highly recommend the audio guide, which is only 5 Euros. It's a Nintendo DS which has several options. I found it confusing to use and wasted a lot of time trying to figure it out, so when you get the guide be sure to ask for very clear instructions and know how to use all the features before you leave the desk. You can follow certain 'trails' through the museum, look up a particular item, or the GPS will play an audio based on where you are standing.

There are plenty of reviews here, but I just wanted to share our experience in case it helps someone else. We were keen to avoid queuing at all costs (having spent 2 hours queuing to get into Versailles the day before) so we arrived just before the opening time and used the Porte des Lions entrance. We were literally the only people there and walked straight in. I have read that this entrance is sometimes closed, but this was first thing on a Monday morning and it was open then. It's on the right side of the museum for the Mona Lisa, so we went there first and then went back to the main entrance to get audio guides before wandering round the other collections. Our 6 year old liked the Nintendo DS audio guide, but I wish we'd taken his own headphones as the ones provided were too big and kept falling off!

Brilliant place to visit, as stated in the title you could easily spend a week in here seeing everything, we managed to cram it into 3 hours seeing exactly what we wanted. Would definitely recommend getting the audio guide and/or map, otherwise you will easily get lost walking around. Apart from signposting for Mona Lisa once in the correct area, not a lot else is signposted. The audio guide itself isn’t the most efficient either, sometimes loosing your location and showing you as somewhere else. The information given on certain artifacts or paintings is good though with a lot of detail. Took us around 30mins to queue without ticket at the pyramid, and around 5 mins to queue to buy a ticket once inside
