Amazing paintings and sculptures. The famous Mona Lisa and heaps of others. I'm not a huge art buff but found the place quite overwhelming. The audio guide helped a lot and you really get to appreciate the art work on display throughout the museum. There are several entrances underground if you don't want to wait in the heat or cold. Try and get there early to avoid the crowds which didn't take long to amass. Get an audio machine, they are so invaluable. I found it easier to enter the number of the piece of art work rather than trying to navigate through the menu. Would definately go back again.
It took three visits to Paris for me to finally visit the Louvre. I’m not too much into art, so I thought I really wouldn’t enjoy it as much as I did. We had our audio guide. We probably spent at least 3 hours there and only saw a tiny slice of that place. It’s HUGE! It would take a few days to truly see everything. We went in December, so no lines. It was a really cool place! I would like to go back so I could see parts of it we didn’t have time to see.
I had actually not planned to visit the Louvre while in Paris because the collection at the Orsay is more my thing, but my original plan to visit Pere Lachaise fell through because of rainy weather. It was a Monday, which is apparently a terrible day to visit the Louvre, because most other museums were closed. Google told me that going late in the day was my best bet, so that I did. If you take the Metro (tip: make sure you have your return Metro ticket before you enter the museum! There is only ONE ticket machine with a verrrry long line at closing time) you can buy your entry ticket at a small shop in the mall (Carousel de Louvre). I walked right up and bought it (cash only). As I was making my way to the security line, I saw an enormous school group leaving, so I knew I'd done the right thing by waiting.
