My long layover didn’t leave time to tour the interior, but I have no shame in merely stopping to admire the exterior. Knowing that a true trip to Paris requires me to enter, I shall endeavor to return. But what an amazing structure from the outside. Postcard worthy on a pretty day.
Really fantastic! I was lucky to have gone when tourism hadn't picked up yet, so I didn't have to wait in line at all, there was only a small group in front of the Mona Lisa, and we were allowed to stay and take as many photos as we liked. I hadn't realized that I needed to exit the area with the artifacts and Egyptian sculptures, go back into the main hall, and reenter a different way in order to go up to the paintings where the Mona Lisa was. I especially liked all of the sculptures and the Egyptian collection. It would be very easy to spend several hours in this museum, as it is massive.
It's beautiful and the collection is exceptional but it's just too big and after the 100th antique sculpture and painting you simply can't embrace more culture and you just walk around like a zombie. You have to visit the museum at least 3 times to fully map it.
