I returned to the Louvre for the first time since I was a teenager, this time with my own family. The museum is as fantastic as I remember. Many people visit it just to see the Mona Lisa and maybe take a selfie with it. Suit yourself, I prefer the greek sculptures, the Egyptian exhibits, and the Flemish painters. The museum itself is a museum, the architecture is superb. The only thing I don't like is the early closing hour.
Strongly recommend guided tour, you get to skip the wait line, and you get to hear the history behind the masterpiece. The tour is about three hours and you don’t get to see all, but after the tour is finished you can go around on your own.
ou could spend days, weeks, months seeing all the Louvre has to offer, but I am not that big of an art person but did want to see the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo for sure. Everyone says the lines are long, but if you go in the winter, the lines are really short, and if you go on Friday night where the Louvre stays open till 9:30 ( closes 6pm other days) the crowd is even smaller, I was able to walk right in and go see the Mona Lisa right up front (as close as you can get with the roped off area) really quickly.
