Be focused and make sure you know which part of the Louvre you want to visit - it's too big to wander around without direction. A definate plus is pre ordering skip the line tickets, you walk straight in any time of day no matter how crowded it is. If possible take a audio guide but otherwise take a map and hit your top must see's.
We toured the Spanish and Italian sections including the Mona Lisa. That took several hours. You could spend days seeing everything. Besides an incredible array of paintings and sculptures, the building itself is a work of art on par in many ways with Versailles. We bought tickets on line for a fixed time and entered at the pyramid. The lines were not too bad. We also got the audio guide. You'll have to leave ID as collateral for the audio guide. They have maps in various languages at the information counters below the pyramid. You will need one. There is a lot to see, so you might try breaking it up and going more than once. It really is worth seeing and the entrance fee was quite reasonable.
The Louvre is a must-see museum as it's world famous and internationally recognized - for a good reason. The collection here at the museum is completely massive, where you need to dedicate a full day if you plan on seeing everything. If you only plan to spend a few hours at the Louvre, I suggest getting a map of the museum and focusing on the galleries and exhibits you're primarily interested in. If you want to use an audioguide, I suggest paying for it instead of downloading the free app, as it was really buggy and I found it unusable given their wifi isn't stable. I also suggest showing up early as you'll be waiting on line for awhile. Even with the skip the line museum pass, it took me about 40min. to get inside when the museum first opened due to security. If you need to use the restroom (and want to avoid the insane line), I suggest going to the topmost floor, as the restrooms are tucked away between the galleries and most people miss it.
