I'm not an avid art lover but this is a must see museum. Spectacular rooms and architecture as well as of course the famous pieces. We were lucky it wasn't too busy when we went midweek layer on in the day. Cheapest to buy tickets inside the museum (€15). Good also for a rainy day in Paris!
Wow. This place is so large that you cannot possibly absorb everything in a day. Not really a place for kids. For me, It was all about the culture of humanity over time. Recommendations: Get there early, go straight to the Mona Lisa exhibit 1st, otherwise you will be in a very long line later in the day. Grab a map before you go in. The main atrium has restaurants, shops and restrooms. There are some once you get into the exhibit areas. Plan your day in advance. I simply love this place. If you are into art and history, you will too. It's also within walking distance to Notre Dame. Hopefully that will be reopened the next time I come back. One last point is that for the most part, people are super nice in Paris. It helps if you know some french, however, everyone we interacted with spoke some english.
I enjoyed my visit but found the amount of artefacts and information on offer to be somewhat overwhelming. I decided to concentrate solely on what I wanted to see and really enjoyed the day. It’s so fantastic how big the collection is but it would take a number of visits to fully appreciate everything they have. Staff here are amazing, extremely friendly and helpful. Seeing some artworks in person you have only read about or seen in pictures is quite a moving experience. We were lucky and didn’t have much problem at all seeing the Mona Lisa or Venus de Milo. I’ll definitely revisit to see some of the other treasures this beautiful building holds.
