Put aside a good few hours to appreciate as much as possible - there’s more than just the Mona Lisa!! Make sure you get an audio guide from the museum and not from a tourist shop as they’re rubbish!
Lourve is huge, if you want to browse all the things in the museum, you need at least couple days. For the masterpieces, maybe 3 hours with a good planning. In terms of going, Lourve is closed on Tuesday, so Monday is not a good day to go. Wednesday afternoon could be a good time to go but hit and miss. Early bird is still better way to approach if you can wake up earlier. We didn't try the side entrance but the underground line is definitely shorter. (going underground, you just need to ride subway there). The line is not for tickets, the line is actually for security, so doesn't matter if you have museum pass, etc, nothing really helps you skip the line(since it is security line). Do your homework before you go if you want to hit them all because once you are in, it is huge!
Great museum, lots of walking. We did not pre purchase our tickets. Instead we arrived at the museum 9:10 (opens at 9am) and joined the line to enter. We waited in line for maybe 10min and then took another 5min to get our tickets once inside. We decided to pay the extra 5 euros for the audio guide. The audioguide was a NintendoDS with gps to help guide you through the museum or tell you where you were. It also had 3D capabilities to show you some of the artworks details.
