This is supposed to be one of the largest museums in the world, which also means long waits and lots to walk. For those who have seen the Hermitage (Russia), this may seem similar. However, this one of the main tourist attractions in Paris. To be honest, I wanted to see only the mona lisa and headed straight that way. You may want to take the audio guide, else the entire walk may seem futile.
Visited here and tried to cover as much as possible within one day, but that's not really possible. It takes a very long time to cover the entire museum. Just two words of advices: Try to not spend too much time on the 'famous' art pieces, like Venus and Monalisa. It really doesn't have much of a return. Do buy the English (or your language) audio guide as the descriptions everywhere are pretty much in French.
What can one say except that this place has one of the most spectacular collections of art in the world. You can spend a week here and not see everything. I spent a day just looking at 18th and 19th century paintings. The audio guide is a little difficult to get used to but with perseverance, it is quite helpful.
